Implementing a CPQ and Automation tool provides many benefits from sales through engineering. Automation allows for a smoother sales process, ensures the correct data is collected for engineering, and even helps record tribal knowledge ensuring all processes are well recorded and future proof! An often-overlooked benefit that DriveWorks CPQ can provide is the automation of your part numbering scheme and using intelligent file names to increase your automation speeds.

How DriveWorks Uses Intelligent File Names

DriveWorks CPQ can automate part numbers in various ways, one being intelligent part numbers and file names based on the specific features of the model generated. DriveWorks has the ability to recognize if a file name has been created before, and instead of creating a duplicate, it will automatically reuse the file from the library. This is a huge benefit ensuring you are not creating duplicate files during each new specification. By reusing existing file names in DriveWorks, you can automatically and effortlessly build organized parts libraries in the specific locations and folders you specify. As you continue to build these libraries.

DriveWorks takes advantage of these now existing components decreasing your model generation time. By default, DriveWorks looks to check if a particular component has been generated before, if not, it automagically creates the part driving all of the sketches, features, textures, custom properties, and drawings to ensure you have a complete CAD model with all the necessary manufacturing data. DriveWorks does this for each component in the assembly, and finally automates the assembly itself.

DriveWorks automation has the ability to take design processes that often take hours or days to complete, and finish those same processes in a fraction of the time. By implementing the ability to automate library creation and component reuse, you can even further reduce generation time down to just minutes or even seconds!

Tools Build into DriveWorks for Library and File Management

Building up an automated library in DriveWorks is easy, and thanks to built in tools, managing that library is just as easy. If there are ever changes to the master model and the entire library needs updated, you can take advantage of the DriveWorks Data Management tool. This tool allows you to browse through all of the tracked generated data and view information about them. You can see if they have been generated, if the file location is valid, what the master model name was, and even the location of the file. This tool lets you do more than just view though, you can actively mark your library components for overwrite and regeneration when necessary. If you make an update to the “post” master file and need to ensure that all files moving forward (including the existing library files) need to reflect this change, all you need to do is mark those files for overwrite within the data management tool, and DriveWorks will take care of the rest!
