TriMech Encourages Female Students to Pursue STEM Learning

By TriMech Marketing on March 2, 2023

Heather Dawe-Rose, Implementation Professional for TriMech Solutions, coordinated efforts to host learning sessions at the Office of Science Outreach at PennState’s annual program ENVISION: STEM Career Day Supporting Young Women for girls in grades 6-12. STEM learning includes the topics of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and focuses on breaking down problems with an objective and analytical approach.

The event took place this year on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. with three sessions presented by TriMech throughout the day, for a total of 61 students, each class geared toward a different age groups.

In our sessions, Girls! Design the World (and Space), female engineers at TriMech will teach all about SOLIDWORKS file construction and 3D printing.

First, the students will walk through how to assemble the various components of a Mars Rover model in SOLIDWORKS CAD modeling software.

Then they will receive a build-your-own Mars Rover kit printed with powderbed 3D printing Selective Absorption Fusion (SAF) technology, kindly donated by our partners at Stratasys. Once assembled, they will use supplied hand-held 3D printing pens to customize their builds! Giving them the option for personalization and quick design implementation.

TriMech is comprised of many engineers from a variety of fields and industries.

Heather has been involved with the outreach events since she was a college student at Penn State herself. For the last 5 years, she has instructed a week-long camp on CAD, 3D Printing, and Physics as well as partaking in various other events and workshops throughout the year. Her professional presentations at 3DEXPERIENCE World have been a source of inspiration to other engineers to create similar camps and workshops in their regions.

She notes “It’s always a great event to mentor at and share examples of STEM careers for young women. This year was their first year back after COVID and I wanted myself and other engineers at TriMech to participate in being examples for women in engineering”. This year Heather will be joined by TriMech’s Brandi Groth, Catherine Felts, and Andrea Bevill.

Teaching is at the heart of TriMech, offering over 50 training courses spanning a variety of technologies and programs, including SOLIDWORKS and 3D printing.
