Introduction to DriveWorks Form Design

By Devin Martin on July 6, 2022

DriveWorks is a best-in-class CPQ and CAD automation software used by many engineering and manufacturing companies. One of the key technologies that makes up DriveWorks is the intuitive form designer. The form designer allows companies to create clear, concise forms that can be completed quickly with no confusion guiding engineers, sales and customers to only specify the combinations that you allow.

The DriveWorks form designer has a variety of features that enable the form itself to quickly and easily be set up, while also making it incredibly easy for users to use and specify data. This means no more struggling with complex excel worksheets or having to train employees on what options need to be paired with which selections. The DriveWorks form designer will take product specification to the next level saving you time and simplifying the sales process.

What technology lies within the DriveWorks forms?

Form Controls

With over twenty different types of form controls and input options to choose from, DriveWorks gives you the flexibility to set up and design a form exactly how you want. Choose from text boxes, labels, drop-down boxes, 3D visualizations, images, sliders, and more to customize how you capture data. The best part? No programming is required. The drag and drop interface allow for anyone to choose a form control and place it on the form.

The form designer also gives full control over how each individual form control behaves. Through simple rules and logic, you’re able to control things like the position of the control, if it is enabled, even if it is visible. You can even control advanced functionality like what the maximum and minimum values of the control are, or what data is shown in the form control based on selections made from other form controls!

Responsive UI with Dynamic Feedback

Having a tool that is easy to use is one of the most important things to consider when implementing a quoting and configuration process. DriveWorks does not disappoint by providing a responsive and dynamic user interface for the user. DriveWorks enables you to relocate and position form controls based on the screen size, automatically displaying the best representation of the form. Use DriveWorks on your computer, tablet, or cell phone with ease.

While the interface is built using form controls, the behavior and responsiveness is completely up to you. Use Dynamic feedback in DriveWorks to notify users of “required” information, as well as dynamically update options that can be selected as details are chosen.

Pop up notifications, task lists, visual warnings, and form feedback all make DriveWorks so simple to use, that someone could quote or specify a product on day one without any training on how to use it.

Data Driven

DriveWorks flexibly connects to limitless data sources. Once connected, use the form designer to look up and relay that information back to the user. Use the data capabilities to allow sales teams to easily select from a list of customer data, or dynamically update pricing based on data stored in your ERP system. Engineers can take advantage of building in all the engineering rules and constraints directly into DriveWorks. Reading from existing excel data tables, to executing rules that drive dynamic form selections.

Rules Based

All DriveWorks technology is supported by its own powerful rule’s engine. DriveWorks forms are no exception. Use rule-based technology to translate your sales and engineering constraints directly into the DriveWorks forms. The DriveWorks rules engine uses familiar excel style syntax making it easy for both sales and engineering teams to write down the necessary rules. With almost 300 built in functions there’s almost limitless ways to ensure your products are quoted and designed according to your company specifications. The form designer and rule builder also contains ‘’intelli-sense’’ and a function wizard making even the toughest rules easy to write down!
