How to Apply and Customize Transparent Appearances in SOLIDWORKS Visualize

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, we demonstrate how to apply and customize transparent appearances in SOLIDWORKS Visualize by rendering a margarita.

About This On-Demand Webinar

In this 20-minute webinar, we render a margarita in SOLIDWORKS Visualize and address the obstacles associated with rendering transparent appearances. Unlike working with solid colors, transparent appearances have unique properties such as the index of refraction and color density that can make them more challenging to work with. But by the end of the video, you should have a good grasp of how to apply and customize transparent appearances in SOLIDWORKS Visualize.

In the margarita example, there are three separate parts we have to accommodate to the solid glass, the liquid, and the ice cubes. For the most photo-realistic image, we have to apply different appearances for each part. To do this, we explain the entire design process from modeling in 3D CAD to customizing settings in Visualize. Some of the steps we touch on include:

  • Producing geometries in SOLIDWORKS
  • Turning on the Visualize add-in
  • Utilizing the Visualize Cloud Library
  • Accessing model properties
  • Applying and customizing appearances (like the TriMech decal)
  • Rendering final models
