xSheetMetal in 3DEXPERIENCE allows users to create three different categories of patterns: rectangular, circular and user defined. A rectangular pattern consists of a pattern that goes in two different directions. A circular pattern consists of a pattern that matriculates around a singular point. A user defined pattern patterns based on number of instances and positions by default based on center of gravity. Below we will go over the different types of circular patterns and how to create them.
A circular pattern can be patterned based on instances and total angle, instance and angular spacing, angular spacing and total angle, or complete crown. An instance and total angle circular pattern are patterned based on desired instances and is evenly spaced around inputted total angle. Instance and angular spacing circular patterns.
Instances and Angular Spacing:
Under the Sheet Metal tab, choose circular pattern.
In the dialog box:
- Choose if instances will be bodies or features
- Under the object to pattern, select a feature/body to be patterned
- Under axial reference, select a cylindrical face, edge, or axis to pattern around
- Under parameters, choose instances and angular spacing
- Under instances, select number of instances desired
- Under angular spacing, select angle desired between each instance
- Under position, select how many instances are above or below the original instance
- The whole pattern can be rotated using rotational angle

Under the Sheet Metal tab, choose circular pattern.

- Under parameters, choose angular spacing and total angle
- Under angular spacing, enter the desired angle between each instance
- Under total angle, enter the angle the whole pattern will be contained within
- Under position, select how many instances are above or below the original instance
- The whole pattern can be rotated using rotational angle
Complete Crown:
Under the Sheet Metal tab, choose circular pattern.
In the xSheetMetal dialog box:
- Choose if instances will be bodies or features
- Under the object to pattern, select a feature/body to be patterned
- Under axial reference, select a cylindrical face, edge, or axis to pattern around
- Under parameters, choose complete crown
- Under instances, choose how many features are to be patterned
- Under position, select how many instances are above or below the original instance
- The whole pattern can be rotated using rotational angle
Crown Definition:
Crown definition can be set and changed for all the above types of circular patterns. Under crown definition, the user can set the parameters to circle and crown spacing, circle and crown thickness, or circle spacing and crown thickness. Crown definition adds desired number of iterations of circular to the outside of the circular pattern in xSheetMetal.
